I'm a film composer so obviously these award shows, from the Grammys to the Oscars are quite important to me. Not as a way to honor the best but as a kind of pulse that highlights where the industry is going. But a few years ago, I revised my judgment when hearing first hand from Academy voters things such as "I don't have time to watch all the films, so this year I'll just vote for the film title that speaks to me the most."
